Second Peter Study

Accountability Group

We will be starting an Accountability Group that will meet every Tuesday night before our regular study (from 6pm-7pm). This group is meant to provide support for those of us struggling in the area of lust. Pornography is widespread and readily available in present times, and guarding our hearts is increasingly more difficult. If you struggle in this area and want freedom, consider joining us. My fiancee, Alina, is taking a Science, Religion, & Reality class from NAU. The professor asked students to respond to the following statement: "Zeus made Athena and God made Adam and Eve. Is there anyone who does not accept the first incidence of creation as mythology? Yet, many millions of people believe the second incidence of creation is fact." Some of the students responses were interesting - how would you respond?

The Great Adventure

On Saturday, September 22, Catalina Foothills Church in partnership with many evangelical churches in the Tucson area is going to be hosting The Great Adventure. This conference will challenge men of all ages, and will be packed with opportunities for men to focus on Christ & exalt Him in worship, encourage one another & draw strength from fellowship together, practically apply the truths we are learning in break out sessions, and to be challenged & motivated by inspiring messages from our keynote speaker. September Topic: God's Will

As the first installment in a monthly discussion topic, let's talk about God's will. A prophet sat before a large church and called out a name. A young man stood with his wife. After proving he had divine insight into their lives, the prophet said, "God wants you to move to Kansas, start a farm, and your agricultural innovations will attract international attention, giving third-world governments the means to feed their people." Wouldn't you like to hear God's voice that clearly? Usually God isn't specific about the details of your life. In fact, it's a good idea to be a little skeptical of people who tell you what God wants you to do. Still, we could use a simple guide to God's will.

The Dead Sea Scrolls

For labor day weekend I went over to sunny San Diego for a quick vacation. In addition to the mandatory beach time, my fiancée and I went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Scrolls will be on display at the San Diego Natural History Museum until December 31, 2007.

On Saturday, October 13, Calvary Chapel will have their 18th annual Men's Conference in Anaheim, California. This year's theme is titled, Me and My House (Joshua 24:15). The conference will run from 7am to 4pm and will feature Chuck Smith, Jack Abeelen, Brian Brodersen, Skip Heitzig, Jeff Johnson, Pancho Juarez, Steve Mays, Raul Ries, David Rosales, and Ricky Ryan. Repentance is something that is easily misunderstood. When I was a young Christian, my idea of what it meant to repent was linked to the guy yelling "Repent!" at me on the lawn of the U of A.
